The Helen Miller Memorial Scholarship

Requisites:  To apply for this scholarship, a student must be a graduating senior from Westville High School and plan to major in English, Journalism or Secondary Education.

Scholarship Amount: $250

Background: Helen Miller was an English teacher who taught at Westville High School from 1949-1989.  She loved both her profession and the students she taught.  She was infamous for her red pen and its abundant use on the essays she graded.  Through the years many of her students went on to become journalists, editors, teachers, professors, authors and many other English-related professions, but whatever their career most all were able to write a well-constructed sentence having had Mrs. Miller as their teacher. At her retirement, she was given a large platter that was inscribed with the following quote – “A teacher affects eternity for she can never tell where her influence ends.”

Please fill out the brief information below and submit an essay between 250-1000 words describing how you intend to use your degree to affect the lives of others.
